A Message from the Rector
Greetings! And thank you for your interest in St. John’s. If you do not have a previous spiritual commitment, I hope you will consider visiting St. John’s to worship with us. Our worship style is traditionally Anglican in an informal setting appropriate to life in the mountains, and our musical worship is eclectic. We like to say that we are rooted in tradition, but not stuck in it. We are an exceptionally friendly community. Although we are diverse in our views—cultural, political, and theological, these differences do not divide us, but rather provide an opportunity to show how Christians are to live together despite differences.
I have been blessed to serve as priest at St. John’s since Advent 2001. My own gifts (and my passions) are primarily in the areas of teaching, preaching, and pastoral care. The priesthood is my third vocation; previously I taught philosophy at the college level and worked for twenty years in academic publishing.
My wife Karla is head of Health Information Systems (Medical Records) and Chief Privacy Officer at Avista Hospital in Louisville. Church dog Jake is a lumbering 100 pound Black Lab, all heart and all stomach.
St. John’s honors and nurtures our Christian life together in an atmosphere of good humor and faithful acceptance. Whether you are a life time Episcopalian, seeker, skeptic, or something in between, you will be welcomed here. Come journey with us!
